We weave our own cloth and have it washed and finished locally to the highest standards. We draw on the huge wealth of textile knowledge, skill, and expertise handed down through the generations, and take pride in building on that tradition and heritage to produce the finest Donegal tweeds available. For us service, quality, and authenticity are paramount in everything we do. We perform all the tasks from colour matching, designing, warping, weaving, through to dispatching the finished Donegal tweed.
In our Donegal tweed we reflect the full spectrum of rich colours found in our local landscape. The natural white and black of the sheep, the greys, browns, blues, greens, purples, reds, yellows, and oranges echo those to be found in the sea, sky, hills, and mountains of Donegal. These colours are skilfully blended together in our Donegal yarns, much of which is spun and dyed locally.
Donegal yarns typically contain a base made of three to six colours with added nepps or spots of colour. It is these nepps which are the defining characteristic of Donegal tweed, which can be bright and contrasting, or complimentary and tonal colours, or mixes of each. With our range of yarns literally thousands of patterns, subtle, rich and colourful, but always beautiful can be woven.
Molloy & Sons aim is to create long-standing relationships with our customers by working closely with them as we strive to meet their wishes. We weave our Donegal tweed to customer specifications and are able to match samples, in a variety of weights. We weave plain, simple and dobby weave Donegal tweeds.
Our home is in Ardara, a small village in County Donegal on Ireland’s rugged North West coast where the Blue Stack Mountains meet the Atlantic Ocean. Ardara has always had a very strong textile tradition and is recognised as the home of the Donegal tweed weaving industry.
